Berlin's surroundings-„Umland“

„Märkische Sandbüchse“ or „sandbox“ is what the area surrounding Berlin used to be called. That sounds boring, dry and dull but those who know the areas know better. Many areas around Berlin are spectacular. First and foremost there is Potsdam and its many enchanting  castles and gardens. The Spreewald with its unique fauna and flora, the Oderbruch and its magical landscape and many other attractions. Seelow, a small town close to the Polish border offers an impressive insight into what the last couple of days of the 2nd World War must have been like. Sachsenhausen, the notorious concentration camp is another example of what Berlin's surroundings have to offer.
